2. Prepare the Coaxial Cable

3. Connect The Tester

Connect the signal strength tester to one end of the coaxial cable. If you are using a power meter, insert the coaxial cable connector’s center pin into the input port of the power meter, and the outer ring into the output port. If you are using a spectrum analyzer, connect the cable to the input port of the analyzer.

4. Configure the Tester

Once the tester is connected to the cable, configure it according to the type of signal strength you want to measure. Set the signal frequency range, the input and output power levels, and any other relevant parameters based on the tester’s manual.

5. Measure Signal Strength

Power Meter: A power meter measures the amount of power transmitted through the cable in decibels (dB). Turn on the power meter and measure the power level by looking at the display. The higher the reading in dB, the stronger the signal.

Spectrum Analyzer: The spectrum analyzer measures the frequency and amplitude of the RF signal and provides a graphical display of the signal spectrum. Turn on the spectrum analyzer and look for the signal’s peak amplitude on the display. The higher the peak amplitude, the stronger the signal.

TDR: The time-domain reflectometer measures the cable’s electrical length, indicating changes in impedance or the presence of any damage. Connect the TDR to one end of the cable and follow the instructions in the user manual to perform the test.
